Graphite-Filled PTFE Bush

Graphite-Filled PTFE Bush — HEMSUN ENGG. INDUSTRIES

Graphite-Filled PTFE Bush — why this filler for this component

A graphite-filled bush is specified when the shaft is the part you must protect. Graphite is the gentlest of the common fillers, so the bush wears in preference to the counterface instead of scoring it — which is the whole point of a plain bearing and something a glass-filled bush actively fails at.

Applications

Where Graphite-Filled PTFE Bush is used

Against a glass-filled bush

graphite protects the shaft where glass fibres abrade it, and runs cooler. Glass-filled resists creep far better, so where the load is high and sustained and the shaft is hardened, glass is the correct answer and graphite is not.

The bush wears rather than the shaft, which is the intended behaviour. Expect a shorter bush life than a structural grade would give, and treat that as the cost of protecting a component that is expensive to replace.

Features

Key properties

Compound

Graphite-filled PTFE, typically around 15% graphite

Duty

soft, plated or refurbished shafts; sustained dry running

How it behaves here

Graphite is itself a solid lubricant, so the bore establishes a low-friction running surface quickly and holds it. Friction is the lowest of the filled grades, which means less heat generated in the first place — useful when the housing offers no good heat path.

Where it does not belong

Load capacity and creep resistance are the lowest of the filled grades. Under sustained heavy radial load a graphite-filled bush will close in on the shaft where a bronze- or glass-filled bush would hold its bore.

Specifications

Specifications

Property Value
Compound Graphite-filled PTFE, typically around 15% graphite
Duty Dry running against soft, plated or worn shafts
Inner Diameter To drawing — commonly 5 mm to 300 mm
Counterface Tolerant of soft, plated and refurbished shafts
Governing factor Protecting the counterface; lowest friction of the filled grades
Not suitable for Sustained heavy radial load — specify glass or bronze
Process

Manufacturing process

Compression moulded from roughly 15% graphite compound, sintered, then machined to your drawing.

Material

Material selection notes

Graphite is itself a solid lubricant, so the bore establishes a low-friction running surface quickly and holds it. Friction is the lowest of the filled grades, which means less heat generated in the first place — useful when the housing offers no good heat path.

Selection

How to specify your order

Against a glass-filled bush: graphite protects the shaft where glass fibres abrade it, and runs cooler. Glass-filled resists creep far better, so where the load is high and sustained and the shaft is hardened, glass is the correct answer and graphite is not.

Quality

Quality checks and inspection

Dimensions are verified on CMM against your drawing. Filler content and sintered density are checked per ASTM D792, with tensile and elongation per ASTM D4894. A mill test certificate stating the lot, filler content and measured values ships with the order.

Supply

Ordering and export documentation

This is often the right retrofit choice for older machinery whose shafts are no longer in as-new condition. Clearance is set hot, as with any PTFE compound; graphite is more forgiving of a shaft finish that is less than ideal.

Export

Export packing and lead time

HEMSUN is a DGFT IEC registered exporter (Government of India). Commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin accompany international despatch.

Care

Storage and handling

The bush wears rather than the shaft, which is the intended behaviour. Expect a shorter bush life than a structural grade would give, and treat that as the cost of protecting a component that is expensive to replace.

Compliance & Standards

HEMSUN is a DGFT IEC registered exporter (Government of India). Filler content and sintered density are verified per ASTM D792 on each batch, with tensile and elongation checked per ASTM D4894.
